The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has recently amended the SOLAS Convention (Safety Of Life At Sea), requiring, as a condition for the loading of a packed container onto an exporting ship, that the container has a verified weight. The shipper is responsible for the verification of the container’s weight. This prerequisite will be effective since July 1st, 2016.
